Description
Latin name: Syzygium cumini
Flowering: March- May (depending on the region and climate)
Dimensions: Maximum height 12- 30m.
Tropical, evergreen tree of fast growth. It has glossy, dark, leathery, green foliage, it is dense and the midribs of its leaves are yellow. Its young leaves are pink. It blooms with small, fragrant inflorescences. Its trunk at the base is rough and dark gray, and as it goes up it is smooth and light gray. It produces edible fruits that are harvested in autumn and are elongated, ovoid and fleshy, green in color at first, purple- red later, ending in purple- black. It is drought tolerant and prefers fertile, loamy and well- drained soils.
