Description
Latin Name: Olea europaea ssp. cuspidata (Olea chrysophylla var. cuspidata)
Flowering: April- May
Dimensions: Maximum height 4- 5m.
It is an ornamental variety of olive with moderate growth and hanging down foliage. It is evergreen like the other olives. Its leaves are lanceolate, but have a copper- green color, in contrast to the silver- green of the common olive. It has small, green fruits with almost zero oil content and its trunk does not look like the common olive tree, but it is embossed and has a rum- like scent. It has deep root system and can take advantage of the little rain in dry seasons. It is also not affected by classic olive diseases. It can be used in gardening, as it has many advantages over the common olive tree. It is sensitive to seawater and therefore should not be planted in coastal areas. It is resistant to most soil conditions.
