Description
Latin name: Actinidia deliciosa
Flowering: May
Dimensions: Maximum height 8- 9m.
Deciduous, climber or shrub, fruit plant with fast growth. It flowers in mid to late spring with aromatic white or red flowers and it is dioecious (both male and female plant). It has oval, green leaves with fluffy surface on the underside. The shape of its fruit is rail with fluffy, brown bark and it is rich in potassium, magnesium, phosphorus and trace elements. It is harvested in October to November. It thrives in fertile, clay or sand- clay and moist soils with good drainage and ideal pΗ 6- 7. It resists to cold up to -15oC in winter, but it cannot withstand the sudden cold in the flowering period, because damage is caused. Its root system is superficial, and this happens because it requires a lot of oxygen. It is not resistant to drought; it needs plenty of water and sunny or semi- shaded spots.
