Description
Latin name: Phoenix dactylifera
Flowering: March- July
Dimensions: Maximum height 20- 25m./ Maximum earl diameter 8- 10m.
Similar to Canariensis, but with sparse vegetation and thinner trunk. It has upright, arcuate, turquoise leaves with wide, barbed stems. It flowers with long, descending, truss- like, pale yellow inflorescences. Its fruits (dates) are edible, initially yellow and when they ripe, they become brownish. It prefers rich soils in sunny planting sites.
