Greek Mountain Tea is a well- known medicinal plant with many beneficial properties. This variety is endemic to the mountains of Crete, as in other Mediterranean regions. Cretan tea has been known since the days of Dioscurides (1st century AD) and was named after him (Sideritis) for its ability to heal wounds from iron pieces. It is located on rocky slopes (in the mountains where it grows), at an altitude of about 1000- 2000 meters, and it is a low shrub. It blooms in summer, where it forms dense clusters of bright white, fluffy leaves from which stems emerge with pale yellow flowers. It is suitable for acidic, light (sandy) and medium (clayey) soils, and prefers well- drained soil. It cannot grow in shady spots. It grows in full sun and it is suitable for drought conditions.
